The success of Voigtländer's camera lines of the 20th century was due to the quality of its lenses. At the turn of the century Voigtländer had a branch office in New York, Voigtlander & Son Optical Co. It advertised Voigtländer lenses like the Dynar for use with the better range of Kodak cameras.

After a distinguished record in the middle of the 20th century making cameras and lenses, the company passed through several owners (including Carl Zeiss and Rollei) before the rights to use the brand name were acquired by the Japanese company Cosina in 1999.
